Sri Lanka’s Inland Revenue Department have opened the “e-Services” for filing Income Tax Returns, CIT (Corporate), PIT (Partnership) , & IIT (Individual) incl. IIT Simplified for Year of Assessment 2023/2024.
Filing Taxes Online: What's New?
The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) of Sri Lanka has opened its digital platform for the assessment year 2023/2024, allowing taxpayers to file returns electronically for various tax categories, including Corporate Income Tax (CIT), Partnership Income Tax (PIT), and Individual Income Tax (IIT).
A new feature introduced this year is the Income Simplified Return (IITS). This option is specifically for individuals whose income sources are limited to employment income, interest income, or no taxable income at all. It simplifies the process for those who fit these criteria, making compliance less time-consuming.
Filing Requirements
All registered taxpayers are required to submit their income tax returns by November 30, 2024. The IRD strongly recommends early filing to avoid last-minute complications, considering the potentially lengthy process of preparing returns. The digital portal is now accessible on the department's official website.
Registering as a Taxpayer in Sri Lanka
If you are not yet registered as a taxpayer in Sri Lanka, you need to obtain a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) through the Inland Revenue Department (IRD). For more information, please visit the IRD registration page.
If you already have a TIN number, you can log in to the e-services platform here.
If you already have a TIN number but have not filed returns before, you may not have completed the tax type registration. To get started with filing your returns, log in to the e-services platform and complete the tax type registration process for IITs.
