Sri Lanka won the 1st runners-up at the World Schools Debating Championship - Numbers.lk

By emerging "Runner-Up in the World" in secondary-school English debating ahead of 66 other countries, 'Team #SriLanka' made history. No previous team made the quarter-finals. Team Canada won the Final after a well-fought battle, in which both teams did their countries proud!

Sri Lanka emerges as the global runners-up in World Schools Debating Championships Grand Final.

By emerging "Runner-Up in the World" in secondary-school English debating ahead of 66 other countries, current Sri Lanka team made history. No previous Sri Lankan team made the quarter-finals in this competition history. Team Canada won the Final after a well-fought battle, in 8 -1 split decision. Further, the Sri Lankan team captain Shalem Sumanthiran was placed 7th Best ESL Speaker.

Sri Lankan team had made it to the finals of the World Schools Debating Championships (WSDC) – by beating Ireland at the semi-finals. The six-member team consists of Janul de Silva and Shalem Sumanthiran from Royal College Colombo, Rahul de Silva and Jasmine Markandu from the Colombo International School, Chanidu Ratnayake from Ananda College Colombo and Reiha Wimalasekera from ladies’ College Colombo.

The tournament was supposed to be held in Mexico this year but it was being held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
