TIN mandatory for Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 motor vehicle services from April 15

⭕ The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) has made it mandatory to provide the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) to receive services from the department, effective April 15, 2025.

⭕ Commissioner General Nishantha Anuruddha Weerasinghe stated that submitting the TIN number is mandatory for all services related to motor vehicles performed by the Motor Traffic Department.

⭕ The government of Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 has relaxed the ban on vehicle imports, prompting the DMT to announce the new requirement.

⭕ Certain types of vehicles, such as motorcycles, three-wheelers, tractors, hand-tractors, and tractor-trailers, are exempt from the TIN number requirement for registration or transfer.
