4 Javelins of Men’s Javelin World Lead Rumesh Tharanga Damaged on Turkish Airlines Flight

⭕ Sri Lanka’s 🇱🇰 Rumesh Tharanga, the current men’s javelin world leader, reportedly had four javelins damaged while returning from Hungary 🇭🇺 to Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 on Turkish Airlines.

⭕ The damage was discovered after the flight, and a complaint was lodged with Turkish Airlines over the handling of the equipment.

⭕ Tharanga said three of the damaged javelins had each been used for more than 90 throws.

⭕ “It might have been a mistake by the airline, but that’s how it is. It’s not a big issue. I’ll move on,” Tharanga said.

⭕ Competition javelins are precision-built equipment. Their shafts, metal heads, dimensions and centre of gravity must meet set specifications.

⭕ Damage to the shaft or tip can affect a javelin’s balance, shape and flight characteristics, which can disrupt training and competition preparation.

⭕ Tharanga was returning to Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 after competing at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Hungary 🇭🇺, where he won the men’s javelin with a 91.09m throw.

  5. What the hell happened with the airline? 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 That Javelin was not just an ordinary piece of sports equipment. It was something that could one day become a valuable piece of history a symbol of mr. Rumesh’s achievement and pride for our country. And they broke it like this? 😢😢 Can you even put a price on something like that? This is honestly heartbreaking. That Javelin was something mr. Rumesh had trained and competed with, and it had a special connection to his journey and achievement. The people responsible for damaging it should definitely be held accountable 🤬🤬🤬

  8. I feel sorry for the athlete and can understand his frustration. Unfortunately, baggage damage does occasionally happen with airlines. I hope the issue can be resolved positively for everyone concerned and that a fair solution is reached.

  9. The airline doesn't handle baggage. Each airport has its own ground handling staff to handle the baggage. This can happen in Hungary or turkey or in Sri Lanka too 🤦🏾

    2. Yuhanie A. Sumathipala there are evil minded saboteurs everywhere. Could be even a LTTE diaspora working in those European countries involved in as this achievement must be like pins in their eyes. But this is my assumption after seen all these propaganda around. But definitely a deliberate act by some outside source. The Airline should investigate and take action. It is prestigious achievement memorabilia and equipment and the Airline is responsible.

    3. Mick De Silva exactly 💯 spot I think the head of state must give some instructions for investigation. But we must be silent right until he finishes his up and coming games.. without upsetting his mind...yes he's a cool tempered guy..my heart is soo heavy..it is a deliberate act no doubt so sad indeed 😢
