🇱🇰 Sri Lanka Relaunches Tourist VAT Refund Scheme (TVRS)

⭕ Tourists who spend over LKR 50,000 (excluding VAT) in one day at a single authorized shop can claim a VAT refund at BIA.
⭕ Up to three invoices per day from the same retailer are allowed; a Tourist VAT Refund Invoice (TVRI) must be obtained using receipts and a passport.
⭕ Eligible tourists must be non-citizens, non-residents, over 18, on a visitor visa, and stay less than 90 days.
⭕ Goods must be available for customs verification at BIA, and the refund claimed at the TVRS Counter in the departure lounge.
⭕ Not eligible: services, food, drinks, VAT-free items, online purchases, restricted or prohibited goods, or items consumed in 🇱🇰.
⭕ The TVRS was first introduced in 2018 under Mangala Samaraweera as the Finance Minister. This is a relaunch of the program.
⭕ 🇱🇰 Sri Lanka's current VAT rate is 18%; the scheme aims to encourage tourist spending on local goods.
