540 New Public Toilets to be built by 2027 Under the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ Initiative 🇱🇰

⭕ The government has launched a national plan to build 540 modern sanitary facilities at fuel stations island-wide.
⭕ An MoU was signed with CPC, LIOC, Sinopec, and RM Parks under the Presidential Task Force.
⭕ Targets:
• 2025 – 100 units
• 2026 – 200 units
• 2027 – 240 units
⭕ The toilets will be clean, safe, and accessible to everyone, including the elderly and differently-abled.
This is a great initiative by the government. In addition, something must be done for the existing public-toilet network:
⭕ Most public toilets run by local councils—often charging an excessive Rs. 40–50 per use (especially in Colombo)—are unhygienic, poorly maintained, and operate as cash cows controlled by local political thugs with no regulation.
⭕ The government must set national sanitation standards to end exploitative practices and make public hygiene a right, not a profit streams for these local councils.
