New Plan to Reduce Crop Destruction: Establishing a Monkey Island

⭕ Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 to relocate wild monkeys to an island in the middle of Randenigala Dam to mitigate crop destruction

⭕ Electric fences will be put up around the island to prevent the monkeys from approaching the mainland

⭕ The pilot project will be implemented under the guidance of key institutions, including the Navy, Wildlife Department, and Peradeniya University

⭕ A system for monitoring the monkeys has been formulated, involving several institutions, including the Navy and experts

⭕ 15 villages will be selected under the pilot project to address crop destruction by wild monkeys in Sri Lanka 🇱🇰
