☀️💡CEB proposes to slash rooftop solar tariff: ~Rs. 27 ➡️ Rs. 15–19 per unit

Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 will revise payments for new rooftop solar systems, cutting tariffs sharply.
New proposed rates (for new systems):
⭕ <20 kW - ~Rs. 19.50
⭕ 20–100 kW - ~Rs. 17.50
⭕ 100–500 kW - ~Rs. 15.50
⭕ New Tariff: Battery-backed rooftop solar systems (evening peak supply 6:30–10:30 PM) - Rs. 45.80/kWh
⭕ On CEB's point of view, the avg. daytime energy generation cost < Rs. 19/kWh and coming down – no economic justification for paying a premium for rooftop solar anymore.
⭕ Rooftop solar PV costs have fallen significantly over the last decade ( In USD) due to panel efficiency & global supply chain scale. Therefore, Even at Rs. 15.50–19.50/kWh, rooftop solar remains viable for self-consumption + modest export – IRR remains attractive.
⭕ At Rs. 45.80 Battery-backed systems remain financially unattractive – even 10–15 kWh batteries (~Rs. ~1.5M to ~2.5M) won’t break even during lifespan (~8 yrs).
