🐒 Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 to Conduct First-Ever Wild Animal Census!

On March 15, from 8:00 AM to 8:05 AM, citizens will count wild animals in their vicinity to assess their impact on crops.

⭕ Focus: Toque monkeys (රිලවා), purple-faced langurs (වදුරා), peacocks (මොණරා), and giant squirrels (දඩු ලේනා) — major threats to coconut crops.

⭕ Survey by Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research & Training Institute: Wildlife damages 30-40% of Sri Lanka’s annual crops, causing losses of ~18 billion LKR.

⭕ Why this matters: Before suggesting solutions, it is crucial to collect accurate data. This survey is a vital step toward data-driven solutions for human-wildlife conflict.
