Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 to Buy Solar Energy at Night with New Tariff

⭕ Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 is preparing a tariff for the CEB to buy solar power from customers with battery storage.

⭕ The tariff is expected to be a promotional rate to attract investors, allowing them to charge batteries during the day and supply power at night.

⭕ A committee has been appointed to finalize the tariff, which will be submitted for cabinet approval.

⭕ Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 aims to generate 70% of its energy from renewables by 2030. Rooftop solar has grown rapidly in the past two years, but grid instability due to intermittent solar power remains a challenge.

⭕ Promoting battery storage is a crucial step in reducing grid instability and lowering peak-hour generation costs.
