🎉 Milestone for Tourism! 🇱🇰 Sri Lanka and 🇲🇻 Maldives have both welcomed their 2 millionth tourist this year. For Maldives, it’s the first time in their history.

⭕ Historically, Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 outperformed the Maldives 🇲🇻 in tourist arrivals. However, the COVID -> economic crisis of 2020 onwards, saw a steep decline. The recent recovery is promising, but numbers still lag behind pre-2020 peaks.

⭕The Maldives' 2M tourists represent genuine high-value visitors. Their immigration policy requires confirmed bookings & return tickets. Every visitor is accounted for, every dollar tracked.

⭕Meanwhile, Sri Lanka's more relaxed approach means our 2M figure might not tell the whole story. Limitations in the current visa system make it challenging to precisely track visitor purposes, spending patterns, durations of stay, and, most critically, the actual number of tourists.

⭕ Sri Lanka's tourism challenge starts with data: We lack robust systems to track visitor stays, spending habits, regional movement etc.

⭕ Better data => better insights => great tourism.. With proper data collection and analysis, Sri Lanka can transform its tourism sector from just counting heads to creating real economic impact. The potential is enormous.
