Let's take a moment to appreciate Sri Lanka’s 🇱🇰 Electoral Process

⭕ Over the last two decades, Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 has refined and perfected its election process into one of the most trusted and transparent systems in the world.
⭕ The groundwork laid during Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake's tenure with the introduction of mandatory ID requirements, followed by Mahinda Deshapriya’s solid leadership, has ensured that voter fraud is virtually nonexistent. Politicians no longer have the term voter fraud in their vocabulary, highlighting the trust built into the process.
✅ Paper ballots
✅ ID requirements
✅ Election day voting with mandatory leaves
✅ Results within 48 hours
⭕No mail-in voting, early voting, absentee ballots, or electronic machines. The process is simple, transparent, and backed by a reliable paper trail.
⭕In the future, there will undoubtedly be calls to modernize the system in the name of technology and making it more democratic. Dear Sri Lanka, don’t fall for it..
⭕Complicating the system will only harm the trust and transparency that Sri Lanka has built in its election process over decades. Everyone can easily count paper ballots, but very few people fully understand how modern voting technologies work. The public simply doesn't trust systems they can't fully grasp. The risk of introducing complex systems far outweigh any potential benefits.
P.S.
The US election was on November 5th—and they’re still counting votes. 🤷♂️
