New online Appointment System for passport issuance Sri Lanka 🇱🇰

Sri Lanka's Department of Immigration & Emigration is set to launch an online passport appointment system soon.

⭕️ Online appointment systems aren't new for passport issuance. However, previous systems were exploited by organized groups, allegedly with some officials' involvement within the Dept of I&E, enabling them to monopolize and resell appointment slots for insane amounts.

⭕️ During the early stages of the current passport crisis, appointment slots were reportedly sold for amounts ranging from Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 40,000. (for appointment only)

⭕ This is why, during every crisis, it reverts to a first-come, first-served system with excruciatingly long queues.

Let’s hope the new system addresses these loopholes, ensuring fair and accessible services for all.
