🚨 Gov’t Pushes Subsidies Despite EC’s Call for Delay

⭕️ EC requested a delay on Rs. 3,000 pension allowances & fishermen fuel subsidies until after the General Election.

⭕️ Despite this, the Gov’t has approved subsidy of Rs. 25/litre for diesel & Rs. 15/litre for kerosene for fishermen, and Rs. 3,000 for pensioners, to be handed out before the election.

⭕️ Legal questions arise over EC’s inaction, as similar measures were blocked for previous administrations.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his inaugural speech as President-elect: "It's not only about the law, it’s about [ethics] too," on the previous government’s targeted incentives for certain voter groups during election season.
