Last week, President AKD (Minister of Power and Energy) directed the CEB to purchase all fuels, including naphtha, diesel, and heavy fuel, through competitive open-market processes. This decision aims to reduce fuel costs, and the CEB has started implementing this strategy.
⭕ Now, with this statement, the CEB is only talking about diesel, carefully avoiding naphtha and heavy fuel, saying there is no feasible supplier for them other than CPC.
⭕ The bulk of the terminal oil power generation is done by those two, not with diesel. This whole thing is about naphtha.
This is a clear change of policy. It's truly mindboggling that people are not seeing this.
Hopefully, the government will clarify this and return to open bidding for all fuel types, or at least provide a good reason for not doing so right away.
