Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 and Cinnamon🌿

⭕️Ceylon Cinnamon, known as "true cinnamon" has a rich history dating back to ancient Egypt (2000 BCE). It was so valuable in ancient Rome that it was worth more than gold.! Today, Sri Lanka produces 90% of the world's true cinnamon supply.
⭕️ There are two types of cinnamon in the Today's market: true cinnamon and cassia. Ceylon cinnamon (true cinnamon) is native to Sri Lanka; it has a lush, inviting scent and a sweet taste, and its quills are soft and light brown in colour. Cassia comes from other Asian countries like China 🇨🇳, Indonesia 🇮🇩 and Vietnam 🇻🇳.
⭕️The true origins of cinnamon were once a mystery! Ancient traders created elaborate myths to hide it's true source, the Romans believed it came from distant lands guarded by mythical creatures.
⭕️Despite its legacy, Sri Lanka's cinnamon industry faces challenges. Average yield is only 250-300 kg/ha/year, far below the potential 1,000+ kg/ha/year, + lack of value addition.
⭕️ With the right focus, Sri Lanka has tremendous potential in the cinnamon industry. Another key area in agriculture & value addition worth exploring. 🚀🌿
