NPP has decided to bar its candidates from seeking preferential votes

⭕ This will give Sri Lanka a rare glimpse into whether socialist principles could work in the national level in 2024 Sri Lanka 🇱🇰.
⭕ Until now, the JVP has been a party of close associates, but the NPP represents a much larger coalition of people with diverse ideologies. In such scenarios, a more capitalistic, reward- and incentive-based system tends to work best.
⭕ Socialist Policies like the above on a national scale could work in the short term, but as long as the rules of the preferential voting system remain unchanged, they will lead to more manipulative politics.
A famous quote from Nassim Taleb perhaps captures these ideologies best:
"With my family, I’m a communist. With my close friends, I’m a socialist. At my state level politics, I’m a democrat. At higher levels, I’m a republican. At the federal level, I’m a libertarian."
