🧵 One of the early KPIs for the @anuradisanayake government is how quickly they can implement the Supreme Court order on online VISA /ETA issuance. It’s been six weeks, and the Department of Immigration & Emigration (DIE) has yet to comply.

⭕️ According to the Court’s ruling, the system should revert to the old SLT/Mobitel system. However, the DIE, which was working on a VFS deal under the previous government, has not made the necessary changes.

⭕️ The previous Minister Alles claimed that switching back would require core system changes to immigration. However, it’s a well-known fact among those familiar with the immigration system managed by Informatics that the system cannot be touched, as it is closely connected with several core systems used by other agencies, including intelligence agencies.

⭕️ Mobitel sent a letter to the Controller General of Immigration (CGI) in August, stating that the ETA can be restored immediately if the CGI gives permission to activate specific backend links. However, no action has been taken to date...
