🚿 Water Tariff Reduction: Due to the electricity tariff reduction, the water tariff is set to be reduced in the near future.

⭕️It's time again to highlight a massive discrepancy created in the September 2022 water tariff change. With this tariff change, the Water Board introduced a massive discrepancy into the water tariff, which is still in effect today.
⭕️ Unlike the electricity bill, in water tariffs, concessionary rates apply not based on consumption but based on consumer type.
⭕️ Samurdhi & Tenement Garden water consumers enjoy massively concessionary tariff rates,
e.g., For the first 5 units:
⭕ Samurdhi + Tenement Garden consumers only pay Rs. 5 per unit.
⭕ Regular domestic consumers pay Rs. 60 per unit.
⭕ Pre-Sep 2022: These massively concessionary rate structures only applied until 20 units. Then every user had to pay the same rate for consuption exceeding 20 units. (makes sense)
⭕ Post-Sep 2022: Tariff Change, Concessionary groups set to enjoy lower rates regardless of usage!.
E.g., regular users pay Rs. 300 for every unit they use over 100 units, while concessionary groups only pay Rs. 140 per unit for usage over 75 units.(makes absolutely no sense)
⭕ Concessionary rates for disadvantaged groups make sense, but not for unlimited consumption.
1. This unfair burden on regular users must be addressed to ensure equitable water tariffs. @JeevanThondaman, your attention, please.
2. The Water Board should be overseen by a regulatory body, similar to the PUCSL for the CEB, to monitor rates and prevent such discrepancies from occurring in the future.
