Bandula G to Striking Station Masters and Controllers: You are Fired!

⭕ ~922 letters announcing the termination of positions of Station Masters and Railway Controllers who are participating in the trade union action have been issued.

⭕ This is a lose-lose escalation for both the government and the people, as the strike will not come to a halt and resume normal railway operations any time soon without rescinding these letters.

⭕ These letters will be challenged in the Supreme Court as a fundamental rights violation under Article 14 of the constitution, which protects trade union activities.

⭕ The Supreme Court will have to decide whether the government can fire employees for engaging in trade union action.

Regardless of the answer, this decision will set a very consequential precedent. If it's "Yes," the government gains the right to fire anyone involved in union actions. If it's "No," trade unions may strike more often, knowing they cannot get fired.
