UPDATE: 22 cashiers, including the chief cashier of the Athurugiriya Interchange interdicted over financial fraud involving millions of rupees.

⭕ There are 27 cashiers assigned to this interchange and 22 of them have been interdicted and are under investigation. - RDA

⭕ Fraud executed by not issuing tickets for toll charges paid by motorists.

⭕ The CCTV footage indicates that on January 20, the suspects had issued tickets only to four vehicles out of 23 during a period of 16 minutes and they had not issued tickets worth Rs.19,500 to 38 vehicles during the period from 11.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. on the same day.

⭕ In January 2024 alone, nearly Rs. 2 million was defrauded.

⭕ The fraud was uncovered after a rise in income when the interchange was manned by the army on a day when employees were on strike.
