Computer literacy among Sri Lankans aged 25-29 stands at 64%, but among the unemployed within the same age group, it's a staggering 84%—20% higher than the overall figure.
⭕️These stats suggest that being computer-literate might make the youth less likely to secure employment, probably due to their unwillingness to explore job opportunities in other fields.
⭕️ With recent advancements in AI and the resulting productivity gains, the job market for lesser-skilled and less technical roles in the IT industry is shrinking rapidly.
⭕️The computer literacy is undoubtedly a must but it does not guarantee employment in the new era. The youth need to diversify their skill sets and develop competencies in other fields to remain competitive in the evolving job market.
