Modi Returns for Third Term in India 🇮🇳

⭕️ NDA wins 294 Lok Sabha seats.
⭕️ BJP short of majority with 240 seats; needed 272. Down 63 from 2019.
⭕️ Now needs TDP (16) and JD(U) (12) to form a government.
⭕️ BJP's vote share drops from 37.7% to 36.56%.
⭕️ Major losses in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Karnataka.
⭕️ BJP gains in Odisha: 19 seats (up from 8).
⭕️ Opposition improves: Congress 99, SP 37, TMC 29, DMK 22.
⭕️ With the NDA securing 294 seats, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set for a historic third term, making history by becoming one of the few prime ministers to lead the nation for over 10 years.
⭕️ Modi’s win marks only the second time an Indian leader has retained power for a third term, following Jawaharlal Nehru, the country’s first prime minister.
⭕️ Unlike the last two elections, Modi's BJP will need its alliance partners to cross the 272 majority mark in the 543-seat lower house of parliament. The election was widely predicted to be a landslide victory (350+ seats) for Modi, but that did not materialize.
⭕️ In the 2014 Indian general election, Modi led the BJP to a parliamentary majority, the first for any party since 1984. Before Modi's 2014 victory, India had coalition governments for 30 years.
