💳 🇱🇰 Bus Fares Go Cashless from Nov 30, 2025

⭕ From Nov 30, 2025, commuters can pay bus fares using bank debit or credit cards on buses with ticket-issuing machines. - Minister Bimal Rathnayake

⭕ According to the Minister, Ministry of Digital Technology has assured that by Nov 30, any bus with a standard ticketing machine will accept any bank card in use in Sri Lanka.

⭕Earlier plans for separate transport cards have been dropped as outdated. The new system aims to make payments simpler for the passengers, reduce fraud, and boost revenue for bus operators.

⭕ This is a great move by the government, marking a major step forward in Sri Lanka’s 🇱🇰 digital payments transformation.

  • 👍🏻 Maintenance has to be done on time and there should be a team for maintenance and repairs.Otherwise This won't be contuned.

  • If this had happened during the previous government’s time, the bus conductors would have already started a massive strike by now! But luckily for them — and maybe unluckily for everyone else — it’s their own government in power this time. So, no protests, no blocked roads, no chaos… just silence. 😉 Funny how timing and politics can turn even strikes into selective events. Public transportation avaiability according requirement is 45% Anyway good move 🤞🏻

  • So how can the current bus ticketing system accept card payments? The government would need to issue new bus ticketing machines, and there could be practical challenges such as network issues, delays in processing time, and conductors refusing to accept card payments and card charges!!!
