🇱🇰 Education Reform 2026: Fewer Subjects, Longer Classes

⭕ Reforms will apply to Grade 1 and Grade 6 students starting in 2026. This will be the first batch under the new system, which will continue as they progress each year.

⭕ The number of subject periods will be reduced to seven per day.

⭕ Each subject period will last 50 minutes.

⭕ The school day will extend until 2 p.m., with one interval per day (two if manageable).

⭕ The focus will shift to activity-based and practical learning methods. A total of 106 new learning modules have been developed for Grades 1 and 6, according to the Ministry.
