Among the 196 elected MPs to 16th Parliament 24 are Old Royalists. That is over 12% representation among the elected.
Even though prominent Royalist MPs like Ranil Wickramasinghe, Naveen Dissanayake, Ravi Karunanayake suffered heavy defeats in this years election, Royal College continues to hold the record for the highest number of MPs from a single school in Sri Lankan Parliament.
Royal College is widely known as one of the premier educational institutions in the island. It has produced many distinguished politicians throughout the years including Presidents of two countries, a Sultan, and three Prime Ministers.

Even though this is an impressive number in Royal college perspective this is a downgrade since the last parliament consists of 28 elected Royalist compare to this year’s 24. There were 31 Royalist were in the last parliament; 28 elected and 3 appointed.
Sri Lankan General Election was held on 05th of August 2020. Final results showed that Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa's Sri Lanka Podujana Party (SLPP) won the election with 145 seats in the 225-member Parliament.
