The Government of Sri Lanka has given their consent today (25) through the Sports Ministry for Sri Lanka Cricket to conduct the Lanka Premier League 2020 (LPL) from 8th to 20th August.

This year tournament will only feature 5 teams despite the previous version of the tournament having 6 teams which were played in 2012. A team will have a maximum of six foreign players from which four will be eligible to represent their team in a particular match. A total of 13 matches will be played in the whole tournament which will include one round-robin game then followed by the semifinals and the finals.

The preliminary round matches of the tournament will be played at R Premadasa stadium Colombo and the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium Dambulla. According to SLC, The finals will be played at the Pallekale international cricket Stadium Kandy.

Sri Lankan Cricket fans are usually not very keen to go to domestic matches. But lack of cricket due to COVID-19 in the international stage could be a great opportunity for SLC promote the event and attract more than usual spectators to the stadiums.
