A male body found near Independence Square today with gunshot wounds was identified as Rajeewa Prakash Jayaweera, a former manager a Sri Lankan airlines. A pistol and a note were found near him.

A male body found near Independence Square today(12) with gunshot wounds was identified as Rajeewa Prakash Jayaweera, a former manager a Sri Lankan airlines. He is also a well-known freelance writer attached to the Colombo Telegraph Website, where he has written articles on a wide range of topics including corruption at Sri Lankan Airlines. Rajeewa Jayaweera was the son of late Stanley Jayaweera.
Rajeewa was found dead at Independence Square, this morning around 6.45 am. A pistol and a note were found near him.
The Police are currently awaiting the post-mortem report. Police Media Spokesperson, SP Jaliya Senaratne told that the Police currently suspects the victim may have committed suicide.
Investigations into the death are underway. We have not ruled out any other causes. We are currently awaiting the post-mortem report.
Former Daily News Editor Mr Rasika Jayakody had shared some information in his Facebook account about the note which was found with Mr Rajeewa Jayaweera. According to him, since the note contained a lot of personal & sensitive matters it’s hard to imagine some 3rd party could have written that letter. So any foul play is highly unlikely.
