If a tourist have to visit Sri Lanka and travel around on a rented tuk tuk. They aren’t boosting economy only thing they boosting is overcrowding our island
If we are in a foreign country we are to purchase an international driving permit so why shouldnt we implement the same, why do they have to roam around so freely?
I live here and own a tuk tuk. I had to jump through hoops for all doc's. Ridiculous. A home country licence should be enough to apply for Sri Lanka licence. I had to pay additional for a recognized international licence which was as shady and Eminem.

This situation is being misunderstood — foreign tourists can still legally drive tuk-tuks in Sri Lanka. 🇱🇰 The DMT only paused their own temporary licence, which was never the real legal basis for foreigner driving rights. The actual law that allows tourists to drive tuk-tuks is much older, stronger, and still fully in force: ✅ 1. Sri Lanka is a contracting party to the 1949 Geneva Convention This gives visitors the right to drive in Sri Lanka with a valid International Driving Permit (IDP). Sri Lanka has never withdrawn from this. ✅ 2. The 1958 Government Gazette operationalises this Gazette No. 11,603 (still valid today) recognises foreign IDPs and authorises the AAC and the Commissioner of Motor Traffic to issue Covering Permits (local validation). ❗ What the DMT paused is ONLY: Their internal “temporary licence without an IDP.” This was not backed strongly by law — and was only an optional add-on. So the actual legal situation today is unchanged: ✔️ Foreign tourists with valid IDPs ✔️ + a Covering Permit from AAC or the DMT ➡️ Can legally drive tuk-tuks in Sri Lanka. No change to tourism, no threat to YouTubers, and no risk to foreigners who follow the proper procedure.

I think it is good for country. Having a foreign license doesnt mean they have qualified to drive a tuk tuk. Tuk tuks dont exist in other countries except a very few asians. Its better for the safety of the road and if someone need it. They are allowed to take it as a local driving license by adhering to the procedure

The You tubers not promoting our country . they are looking for subscribers and monetization for earn money by selling out country. They sell our country and take money as influencer . Don't if they really want to do the popularization of our country can do it by bus . can . train . Although they are not promote tuk tuk s or tuk tuk rental companies . Don't put wrong ideas without knowing the real facts.
